First of all, I find it quite original that the story is about a troubled teenager, yet it doesn't come across as a drama film—which is usually the case.

Greta tries to keep herself strong with a good dose of dark humor, which certainly makes the story bearable for us.

I found this main character quite interesting, rather unpredictable, etc., which ensured that this film certainly didn't get boring.

Nevertheless, I still prefer more cheerful films, and I have seen more entertaining things with Hilary Duff. Although she didn't act badly at all here, I still prefer seeing her in amusing roles.

To summarize: I do not classify this film solely as a drama, but if you are looking for a true comedy or a real romantic film, you would be better off watching something else.

Which doesn't mean I advise against it! I am actually glad I brought it home.

A decent film about a rebellious teenage girl who is sent by her mother to her grandparents for the summer holidays. A nice little story with reasonably well-developed characters. Entertaining, and although Hilary Duff might not be well-cast here, she pulls it off well (which, by the way, also applies to the rest of the cast).

The Duff Show.

An actress who has managed to make a name for herself among the relevant target audience, but who, as far as I am concerned, never really went very far in terms of acting itself. She is not a bad actress, but conversely, not a very good one either. This film was probably meant to be her attempt to appeal to a somewhat broader audience.

What makes this film slightly different is the tone, which is significantly heavier than the average film for this target audience. It remains a film that some people can really relate to, but it is the tamest and safest film of its kind. Aside from some somber views on society and the world, this film isn't really any more unique and lacks a somewhat bolder tone.

Furthermore, Duff's role is a bit too typical for her, and the film too often turns out to be somewhat predictable but also, above all, sweet. A plot development that is really executed too tamely to leave a lasting impression, but that does not detract from the fact that both the setting and a few animated sequences make an impression. Those will be the scenes that stick, but that is where it ends for me.
