Een Noodlottige Ontmoeting plot
On December 19, 1972, Netty van Hoorn witnessed a murder in a Spanish camping bar. In the voice-over, the filmmaker talks about the drama and the trial of the shooter. This turned out to be an East German who came to Spain under a false name. Georg Welzel was executed in 1974. As a key witness, Van Hoorn still feels guilty about this. 33 years after the event, she travels to the former East Germany where she talks to Georg's family. They talk candidly about their childhood incarcerated in the communist country. They do not know how and why Georg ended up in Spain. In Spain, the family of the murdered Antonio is visited. He grew up under the Franco regime and worked in the Guardia Civil. Why he came to the bar in 1972 is a mystery. Van Hoorn also visits the military archive in Barcelona and she speaks to a lawyer at the time. She tries to unravel the backgrounds of three young people who met one fateful afternoon.
