A Safe Place plot
Susan is a young woman in New York who refuses to accept the conventions of the adult world. She, lying on a mattress, clad in colorful clothes, for hours on end about the incoherent things of life to her intellectual friend Fred, or is with boyfriend Mitch, to whom she is sexually attracted.

A profound film that caused quite a stir in 1971. After it was screened at the New York Film Festival, opinions were extremely divided. The crowd started shouting, and fights even broke out. The film was originally written as a play by director Henry Jaglom in the 1960s. Tuesday Weld appeared in a few performances. Jaglom was offered a cinema debut by BBS Productions, and decided to give his play a cinematic treatment. He also made his directorial debut with this. Writer Anaïs Nin considered the film a masterpiece, and called Jaglom the magician of American Cinema. Jack Nicholson appeared in the film for free as a favor to Jaglom. His only demand was a new color television set. All his scenes were shot in one day. He previously worked with Jaglom on Psych-Out, Easy Rider and Drive, He Said. Gwen Welles made her acting debut with this film.
This movie sounds more interesting than it actually is. Many consider this an experimental film. As far as I'm concerned, it would have been better to remain a play.
