Jumper plot
"anywhere is possible."
David Rice (Hayden Christensen) discovers at a young age that he is a jumper. He can teleport himself from one place to another. He uses these special powers to give himself a luxurious life. Twilight sci-fi.
Was expecting more real sci-fi, not a teen love story where the sci-fi is really just an extra. So it's best to adjust in the beginning. Liman's directing is also a bit meager, but that was within expectations.
Furthermore, too little is done with the entire jumper data. The film quickly switches to the jumper chase with Jackson making a rather ridiculous figure. Christensen is a lackluster lead, Bilson an easy love interest. Jamie Bell is actually the only one who really brings some life to the brewery.
Visually it is not too much. Some holiday snaps, reasonable CG but little visual ingenuity. It's that it doesn't last too long and that there is enough action in it, otherwise it would have been a complete flop.
Edit: and then at the end also Stewart who comes by ... had to laugh.

Well... first of all it's a shame that the actors are changed to make the character older. The story was okay, but it could have been a lot more. Also a pity that it was not explained why he can jump and others cannot.
Also a pity that no background info is shared about the boy who helps him and the character of Samuel L. Jackson.
What was also very disappointing is that Kristen Stewart can only be seen for 2 seconds at the end.

The final does it for him.
Liman can be a pretty decent action director. For example, Edge of Tomorrow I really liked. Jumper, however, lacks some power, despite the fact that there are also a lot of nice things here. However, most only come into play in the final phase when the other parts feel a bit emptier.
In any case, it seemed to be a decent original film. In terms of idea, then, because before you know it, the film is slowly following the storylines of Twilight . And it starts to follow very well, which is what mainly kills the film. Still, Jumper is the clear winner.
In any case, Christensen is doing reasonably well. His charm does do a lot of work though. Bilson is cute too. Jackson solid. Something misplaced. He is actually still too good for this kind of role, because he can't do much with it after all.
Visually reasonable. A slightly more raw approach has been chosen. Reminds me of Peter Berg's more serious films at times. But this one is more playful, mainly because it remains science fiction. Yet it is all still fairly raw, but it only gains an advantage in the final phase.
Overall, the film feels a bit sloppy and too well-behaved. The story does little special things and mainly tells a love story that is fairly short sighted. When Bell arrives we hear about a war between jumpers and paladins (gosh, where did the movie get that from) but then the movie starts to gain some momentum.
The final phase is quite cool, full of nice ideas and yet clever directing. That's the part where Liman's hand really comes into its own. Too bad the rest of the movie was a bit too unremarkable to be really enjoyable.
