Der Scharlachrote Buchstabe plot

Massachusetts, late 17th century. The beautiful Hester Prynne lives in the small Puritan community of Salem. She is executed for refusing to reveal the name of the father of her illegitimate daughter Pearl. For seven years she has to wear a red 'A' for adultery on her dress. Then her presumed dead husband shows up, who is blind with jealousy and resentment.
