I had hoped for a somewhat grander approach. The situation in The Signal is very reminiscent of 28 Days Later... but after a fascinating first part it is all kept small. I only now see that the budget was extremely low so somehow it makes sense. Even a little handsome.

But unfortunately the tension ebbs after that and it's time for Comedy Capers. Anna and Clark were equally fun, but overall it wasn't fun enough. The story also becomes more of a jumble of present, past and hallucinations. However, it never really gets complicated.

There are a few nice hard scenes in it, but I certainly didn't get blown off your seat. The denouement was also very easy. Could have been more.

setback.

It's certainly not that easy to unite three different styles in one film, but that's not the problem with this film. It all starts reasonably well, a bit classic indie, that's for sure, but the atmosphere is still good.

Visually it is scanty, the gore also looks a bit cheap, but it especially starts to derail in the second part. The atmosphere changes and an attempt is made to bring humor, but that goes seriously wrong. It's supposed to look pretty trippy and crazy, but the actors aren't up to par and it's just not crazy enough, making the effect pretty ridiculous.

The third part muddles on a bit, but by then the calf would have drowned long ago. The atmosphere was completely gone, there was no longer much horror and the settlement was no longer really interesting. Would have been more resident I think, especially if the middle part had been completely removed.

2.0*

Different chapters, different tones. Then such a film quickly becomes erratic, and it cannot escape that. And with a downward trend. The first transmission is still promising with a sinister note, but it loses it completely in the second act. A turn to crazy, dark humor. There is sometimes something nice in between, just like there is sometimes a bloody scene that may be there, but it is a bit too little and not pointy enough to keep it going. It's not all characters either. The third part doesn't work anymore. Close, but no cigar. something like that.
