I Sell the Dead plot

"Never trust a corpse."

Just hours after looting their last grave, gravediggers Arthur Blake (Dominic Monaghan) and Willie Grimes (Larry Fessenden) tell their life story to Brother Francis Duffy (Ron Perlman). It soon becomes apparent that they were no ordinary thieves and sold their dead bodies on to the local medical examiner. And through their stories, the priest in turn learns that not all bodies are the same. The story gradually reflects what takes place in the twilight zone between death and life.

Reasonable.

The humor worked occasionally, although it was especially the situations the gravediggers find themselves in that were really fun. The alien is definitely the nicest in the entire film.

Visually very ambiguous. On the one hand it is beautiful and slick, but it seems as if they were acting in front of a blue screen the entire time. Very disturbing at times. I would have gone for a total comic look. In any case, those comic pieces seem to be mainly a mandatory number here, which is quite a shame.

Music is the biggest drawback. Although clearly intended, I don't think the jolly stuff really works well. It makes the film very fluffy and smooth, while it really cannot survive on humor alone.

A bit of a no-brainer. It's quite original (as in "something different"), but otherwise too well-behaved (dark humor, really?) and a bit too bland.

It certainly would have done more, but it's doable for once.

2.5*

Mediocre movie...the humor and the gore

I found it a bit disappointing and I also found the CGI and the like a bit less.

The acting of both gentlemen was good.

Not a film I will watch again.

A successful horror comedy, in my opinion. There isn't really a real story. A collection of events within a frame story is a better description. The atmosphere is nice and dark. The film has a Gothic flavor. Responsible for this is the time (late 19th century), the nighttime sounds. the many cemeteries and the profession of the two protagonists. They take carcasses from graves to sell to science.

So atmospheric. Still, the comedy comes first. Within the dark atmosphere, the characters act very light-hearted and laconic, while serious things are going on. That contrast is funny. Moreover, bizarre things happen during excavations. Remarkable deaths are exhumed, giving rise to wonderfully grotesque scenes. Very nice.

The horror is not avoided either. The dark atmosphere has already been mentioned. There are also a few harsh and bloody scenes. Although the approach of those scenes is comedic, most of them would not be out of place in any splatter film. Furthermore, the film has nice characters and the acting is good. I had a good time with 'I Sell the Dead'.
