"The last man alive... is not alone!"
A doctor named Robert Neville is a survivor of a biological war. This war has killed everyone except a group of a few hundred people who are sensitive to light and who think science and technology are bad. This group hunts Robert because he is the symbol of science and technology. Robert, in turn, uses science and technology to fight back.

Why so much hate? This is quite brilliant stuff! It may not be the best film of all time and I understand that The Omega Man was not awarded at the time, but the atmosphere is wonderful! I love the authentic feel of the seventies working with an empty, apocalyptic New York. The albino cultists are by far the coolest bad guys I've seen in ages and Charlton Heston... Charlton Heston rules as ever. Everyone has seen I Am Legend and a fat cigar smoking Heston with bare torso and machine gun is cooler than Will Smith in any guise. Of course you have to like camp to appreciate this, but surely the total picture must at least put a grin on your face? In any case, it is a nice bad action movie, where you don't have to get bored. New York looks confidently empty, leaving the only thing that looks fake is the bad guys. But their origin and motives are great. The same goes for the action. All beautifully shot, and the film (despite the changed fashion) has not suffered much from aging.

Reasonable film about a man who is almost the only one to have survived a biological war. A post-apocalyptic film with a rather peculiar atmosphere, which makes it easy to look away (also because there is quite a bit of action). Far from exciting, especially since the bad guys seem rather clumsy (but that too has its charm).
