Moszkva Tér plot
Budapest, Hungary, 1989; There is great political unrest in the country, Hungary is going through a major upheaval, namely the fall of communism, just like in the rest of Eastern Europe! However, Petya and his friends aren't into that at all. They are about to graduate from high school. All they are doing is partying, girls, drinking and making money the easy way. And of course pass the final exam, but that doesn't have to be a problem with the leaked assignments....

A surprisingly atmospheric and lighthearted film that manages to be moving in its smallness. It is essentially a typical portrayal of Hungary on the brink of the Wende, focused on a group of politically apathetic young people who hang around and fall in love. In that respect, it is not all that surprising, but it is in the delightful atmosphere in which it is all set. The hero of the Hungarian Uprising of '56, Imre Nágy, is reburied and the young people switch channels or go for a beer; the communist leader of the last few decades dies and they go on summer vacation. The nonchalant camerawork is also a nice touch.
The ending, incidentally, mocks all the clichés found in such coming-of-age films, and still manages to give the viewer a somewhat sad kick. So, a nice little film.

Yeah, what a great movie. About boredom, mischief, just stirring things up a bit, rioting. Petya and his mates attract trouble and provoke it. There seems to be no moral compass; everything takes place in a seemingly lawless city where everything is filthy and corrupt. And then a woman enters the picture after all, and life changes. Do you choose quick money and an unsafe criminal career, or love? An age-old story, but well executed in this one.
