The Go-Getter plot

"Life doesn't come with a roadmap."

Teenager Mercer (Lou Taylor Pucci) is deeply disillusioned after a tragic loss after his mother has passed away. To cope with his depression, he steals a car to make a trip to his Mexican half-brother whom he hasn't seen in years. When the cell phone in the car rings, he answers it and it turns out: it's the owner of the car, Kate (Zooey Deschanel). She knows his name, which bothers him, but during the trip leaves the car to him on the condition that he tells her about his journey. He conceives the idea of surprising a girl (Jena Malone) he knows from high school and who lives near his half-brother with a visit.
