It really doesn't seem possible to make a movie in the US without throwing in all kinds of romantic and sentimental sidelines...well, the 1999 riots around the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle, in itself a great topic for a movie.

As for the left-wing character of the film, yes it is clear, albeit on the pacifist side, the anarchists certainly do not come off well or his agent provacateur.

It is also clear that there has been police brutality and ill-advised decisions from above, as well as that the WTO has so far done nothing for the less wealthy on Earth.

Film only manages to convince moderately and only in the credits do we get something of revolutionary zest, perhaps still nice for young people to get an idea of how such a somewhat out of hand demonstration goes and what you can expect from the police.

Brilliant drama with an excellent cast. Amazing how the film effortlessly manages to keep the attention on a rather banal fact, namely a demonstration against a meeting of the WTO in Seattle in 1999. The true story is beautifully exposed from different points of view. The acting is excellent. This was a very nice discovery for me.

Well, yeah...gosh...it kinda drags here and there. Characters are not very interesting and most of the dialogues are not. The spectacle should actually come from the confrontations and the police brutality. The real images of the clash are grim and then again with a good feeling edited through it. They give something to the film as far as I'm concerned. In the end with the WTO's negotiations failing and the demonstrators being released, there seems to be a bit of a feel-good ending. In that sense everything comes together a bit, but it doesn't get impressive anywhere except for the real images.

The idea is there, the subject is there, the message is there, there is certainly a story in it....but unfortunately the end result is not enough. A missed opportunity.

Nice: Fake empire by The national as an adaptation at the end and in the final score.
