Daniel Davrot and Peachy Carnehan are two ex-sergeants of the British army, who now lead an adventurous and very irregular life. But their existence isn't adventurous enough for them, and they want to spice it up with a venture as ambitious as it is bold. Davrot and Carnehan want to penetrate the inhospitable and unapproachable realm of Kafiristan. Since Alexander the Great, they would be the first Europeans to enter this unknown land. They also immediately want to become Alexander's successors: to become king of Kafiristan and to appropriate immeasurable riches.

Solid adventure starring Caine and Connery. Set in the late 1800s, these two former soldiers travel to an inhospitable area in Afghanistan: Kafiristan. The story goes that Alexander the Great was the last white person to have moved around there. Anyway they get there and soon become heroes. Connery even becomes king!
Plot-technically, the rest can be filled in and that doesn't make the film very special. In addition, an interpreter (who happens to be there!) has to do a lot of translation work between our two heroes and the locals in order to have some plot left. That typical English humor never catches on with me either. What is still cool are the filmed beautiful landscapes.

Another movie that might have been fantastic as a book, but is too unbelievable on the big screen. Sean Connery as king-god of what underprivileged Afghans? No, I can never really get into the story.
Moreover, the 19th century imperialist thinking is just a bit too thick for me.
If you're a 12-year-old Tintin fan then this might be for you, but it didn't do much for me.
