The Deaths of Ian Stone plot

"Live everyday like it's your last."

Ian Stone is an ordinary boy who one night discovers a body on the side of the road. But when he examines the body, he is suddenly attacked and, in shock, lands on the rails, only to be run over by a train. Ian then wakes up in an office and discovers he is still alive. Ian then learns that he will be hunted at the same time every day and eventually killed. The next day, however, he will wake up to a new life and die again, later that day. Ian decides to look for answers to his many questions. But his most urgent question is and remains when he will really die.

Unexpectedly thought it was a strong film.

With atmosphere as the main asset. Piana retains a mysterious and ominous flow, especially in the first hour. Certainly also due to the fine plot, in which the curiosity is worked continuously because the plot is slowly revealed. It's a pity that this happens in a cliché way (unknown people do it all for a while), which makes it feel a bit cheap. Otherwise a nice original movie with nice acting and cool monsters.

3.5*

The film starts out as a run-down teenage horror film, but quickly turns into a dynamic story when it turns out that the main character is in a kind of time loop. He keeps waking up from a bad dream and ends up in another bad dream. He shoots from one reality to another. We see the character in relatively short episodes always fighting an exciting battle with demonic attackers. Many episodes. Lots of struggle. So a lot of dynamics.

The demonic figures are created using CGI and look good. Credibility is good for the experience. Especially because the creatures are not subtly tucked away but are given a lot of playing time and fully figure in the film.

The variety of reality travel is a nice concept. The episodic narrative form fits well. However, over time, the machinery falters. The reason for this is that as a viewer you naturally learn more and more about the hat and the brim. The more you learn about intrigue and motives, the more ridiculous and forced the episodes become. Still quite nice, but just less spontaneous and more artificially constructed. The fresh casualness diminishes with each episode.

Fortunately, saturation does not occur. After all, the episodes are short. The film is edited quickly and the camera work is just good. The acting is also quite acceptable. The characters convince. The sexy Jaime Murray in particular makes a big impression as a beautiful emissary of the dark. The good side of the spectrum is also well represented by the equally beautiful Christina Cole. And... Oh yes, Mike Vogel's title role is also doable.

Oh, I could have it all.

Mme.

Film that has a concept that is more fun than the film itself. These kinds of concepts, where the main character dies over and over again, are not very original anymore, but they are fun nonetheless. So it's up to the director to do something refreshing or fun with it. Something director Piana doesn't quite succeed in.

The film's primary wrong choice is to drop the fun that comes with this concept. Contrary to expectations, The Deaths of Ian Stone is a very serious film. Where these kinds of films normally aim for fun and make drama an afterthought, this film mainly focuses on a sad and gloomy tone. However, this does not benefit the film.

Especially because you can hardly take this seriously due to the poor acting of the cast and a ridiculous starting point. The elements that are mixed with this film really cross borders. At least, here, because they aren't developed enough to be really fun. Then the plot itself is mostly left over.

He still knows how to look away, but here too it is a pity that the film never succeeds in terms of fun and keeps the gore or explicit images of violence safely out of the picture. The pace is good for the first half, but the film lacks a really nice flow. It's a shame, because these films offer an ideal platform for some fun.

No, this was a setback. You can take it for the concept, but there are better films of this caliber to be seen. Especially movies with more fun, because Ian Stone is a more serious film that wants to be taken seriously, but once the finale arrives there is little room left to really take this film seriously. Unfortunately.
