The Man in Grey plot

During an auction at an English estate during WWII, 2 strangers meet and muse on the history of their families and possible connections. Flashbacks reveal the story of the kind, rich, and beautiful Clarissa Richmond and her relationship with the bitter and impoverished Hesther Shaw. Their destinies are entwined, even as their paths part. Clarissa marries the beautiful but violent Marquis Rohan, while Hesther becomes an actress.
