Tussenstand plot
Martin and Roos are divorced but still not separated from each other. When their 17-year-old son Isaac withdraws more and more into silent isolation, the conversations between the two become harder and more intense. Their attempts to find a solution for Isaac are thwarted by their past frustrations and their inability to listen to each other. The meetings between the two always take place on neutral ground, where they also have their work conversations, meet their friends and try to build new relationships. The 'full life' of those public places contrasts sharply with the interior spaces where Isaac wanders, and the silence he prefers. The film allows these two contrasting worlds to collide. And makes it tangible how something is gradually shifting in the relationship between the three family members who are so closely connected and yet can barely reach each other.
