No Reservations plot

"Life isn't always made to order."

Chef Kate Armstrong lives her life as she runs her kitchen in a trendy Manhattan restaurant; without nonsense. Her way of working is both charming and intimidating to those around her. Kate coordinates hundreds of meals without effort during hectic shifts and her dishes are perfectly prepared to perfection. Kate's perfectionist nature is put to the test when she is suddenly forced to care for her nine-year-old niece Zoe, competing with new sous chef Nick Palmer, who is her complete opposite. Kate must learn to communicate outside the kitchen if she is to bond with Zoe and find true happiness.

“Some chefs call them love birds. A romantic dish for that special occasion.”

Sympathetic movie. It's all filmed smoothly and Zeta-Jones and Eckhart are a nice duo. And lots of good food, always a plus. Breslin is sometimes bloody irritating, but that is of course also her role. The drama doesn't quite come out well, and the scenes with the therapist are a bit off. But for the rest this is just a great feel good movie with a sweet ending.

A fun movie that I really enjoyed. You don't have to think about it and you can just sit down and just watch without having to think too much about what the movie is about and what is going to happen.

It's fun to wait for the end even though you know what's going to happen. Because it's predictable, I think it's also nice to watch the movie properly and just sit back and relax and not think too much about it.

Fair drama about a Chef who struggles with her perfectionism while also unexpectedly getting custody of her niece. Zeta-Jones plays a nice role, nice to see how her character reacts to criticism, full of the counterattack. Eckhart does a decent job too, there's a certain amount of chemistry, and in the end it's all pretty feel good. But it's not deep, it all feels a bit too standard; you can almost draw the outcome. Nice for once, but certainly not the best film about cooking and certainly not a high-quality drama 2*.
