The comparison with Anthropoid which premiered a little earlier and covered the same topic

will come later, but this film adaptation of Laurent Binet's book can already be called successful.

Director Cédric Jimenez, who was previously responsible for the excellent La French (2014) does a good job with the not too spectacular story I have mixed feelings about the casting of Jason Clarke as Reinhard Heydrich, he plays well but his appearance is too far from the original and lacks its horrifying and evil appearance. Rosamund Pike, on the other hand, I found very convincing as his wife, the rest did as it should.

The first part of HHhH that Heydrich introduces was good but a little too concise, the attack itself was portrayed clearly and effectively, although there could have been a bit more tension in the run-up. I thought the ending was perfect, with an extra compliment for the magnificent camera work plus editing.

Good movie.

A film that is easily compared to Anthropoid, which was released at about the same time, named after the operation to get rid of Heydrich. HHhH focuses on more than the attack or its preparations. Not that Heydrich's career is extensively discussed. It is all rather fragmentary and extracts from important historical events such as the Night of the Long Knives in which Röhm was murdered or during the invasion of Poland in September 1939.

Jason Clarke is anything but bad as Heydrich. Thought he had the aura to step down as a leader. The real Heydrich was more pointed in face and physique. His eyes were also much colder. An interesting scene somewhere in the film where the Wehrmacht were not big friends with the cowardly "purification practices" in the conquered areas.

The second part of the film focuses more on the attack and its consequences itself, making the film more parallel with Anthropoid. Also here extra attention for the cyanide pills and the church scene.

The English remains a pity, takes the authenticity out of the film. It doesn't work in French either. For the rest, more than an excellent account of this important event from WWII.
