Here Is Always Somewhere Else plot

"One of the great mysteries of the art world"

Documentary by Rene Daalder about his fellow emigrant Bas Jan Ader, the Dutch/Californian conceptual artist. Bas Jan Ader disappeared in 1975 under mysterious circumstances at sea, trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean with the smallest sailing boat ever. Ader called his project "In Search of the Miraculous", but to this day the real nature of his search remains one of the great mysteries of the art world. All the more so because the oeuvre that the artist left behind is remarkably small and he hardly spoke about it during his lifetime. In an attempt to shed light on the artist suddenly gaining worldwide attention, Daalder uses his own emigrant life in Hollywood as a guideline to reconstruct Bas Jan's life.
