Using a €5,000 budget as an excuse, then you know what time it is.. Huge fallacy. A bunch of non-talents who just threw something together under the guise of "the first Dutch slasher". Put a big turd on the DVD and frisbee it out the window. A monstrosity to be ashamed of, even as an amateur.

At the time, this film was easy to obtain, both separately and in a 'Dutch Horror Box' (with Horizonica and Tikken).
The first Dutch slasher, and unfortunately, not a very good one. The acting is of poor quality. Additionally, they could have been a bit stricter with the cast, because I counted three times how you could hear someone burst out laughing, even once while the person was on screen. Surely you notice that during directing? It reminded me of those crappy SOV titles they sometimes came out in the 80s.
Furthermore, you just notice a little too much that this film was made by genre enthusiasts. Many genre clichés make an appearance. For instance, they had never made a scene where someone scares another character with a killer mask, and functionless nudity was something we had never seen before either. The synth soundtrack also reminds one a little too much of other genre films. Now, I know that the genre is not very original and that there is a lot of overlap as a result, but you can overdo it.
I thought the murderer actually looked pretty decent with his rugby ball mask.
On the other hand, I can still appreciate that they tried to include some gore and special effects with a limited budget of 5,000 euros. The result shows that the budget wasn't big, but I still find that cooler than resorting to off-screen killings.
I could still laugh at some things, like the Brabant accents, the absurd dialogue, and those stupid clues that reminded me of Sinterklaas rhymes.
Furthermore, this is somewhat below par even for low-budget slashers.

For a very cheap Dutch production, Woensdag exceeded expectations in every respect. At the very least, the viewer is convinced that the creators behind the camera have shown a genuine passion for their craft. The effects are kept practical and the concept is quite fun; moreover, some cast members don't do too badly. Furthermore, it is all naturally very simple and it takes too long before things start to spiral out of control, an argument reinforced when the first murders primarily take place off-screen. Building tension, in particular, fails to really succeed despite an atmospheric location, but Woensdag makes a valiant attempt to put Dutch horror somewhat on the map.
