Anyone who has seen Jiro Dreams of Sushi knows that training to become a Japanese Chef is not easy and a very long process, where the first year you only wash rice or something. In that respect, the attitude of the Japanese Chef in this film is very understandable and the tyrannical is perhaps more something from the perception of the Westerner and certainly not something exceptional. Which is exceptional how long he lasts with the main character, because I personally threw her out of my restaurant at an early stage. In short, not really a film that is very believable.

Nevertheless, it all looks pleasant, the clash between cultures is nicely depicted and there is certainly chemistry between the protagonists. It's just a pity that the course of the film is so predictable, but well, the film is not exactly profound anyway, so the predictable was in a sense predictable. A little more could have been done in the audiovisual field, especially when it comes to filming the dishes, where the viewer could have been tempted more. A missed opportunity. 1.5*.

Brittany Murphy, who died much too young, is not a top actress, but she is always fun to watch with her characteristic pout, especially in innocent nothings like this film. It is usually little, but a pleasant pastime at times when nothing else is available.
