Denise Baudu, a young orphaned girl, moves to Paris in the hope of working in her uncle's shop. But the big glamorous shop 'Au Bonheur des Dames' on the other side of the street crushes all the competition in the neighbourhood. Denise therefore decides to work in 'Au Bonheur des Dames'.
