A good film set at an American university, with students of all races. A film about prejudice and racial discrimination at school. The many characters keep the film entertaining, but this also makes them somewhat superficial. Nevertheless, a strong finale, a fine cast, and a good soundtrack.

Quite nice. The film is full of stereotypes, but after the first five minutes they seem intentionally exaggerated. It was never irritating, and it even seemed to fit. In any case, the whole atmosphere on that campus is pleasant, and it is striking that there are Black people walking around there. Usually, these kinds of films consist only of lily-white, well-behaved boys and girls. So, refreshing.
It does get worse towards the end. In any case, that ending was quite predictable. That Nazi stuff didn't really appeal to me, although I could empathize with Remy's mindset. A nice role by Omar Williams as well, and a magnificent performance by Fishburne. Swanson doesn't quite come into her own as much, but she is certainly a pleasant presence. Ice Cube also had a fine little role in which his limited acting talent fit quite well. The camerawork is quite nice with some fine editing at times, but the photography was just downright ugly and looked very cheap. 3.0*.

Revisited on Netflix after more than 20 years. A decent crime drama by Singleton in which he follows three freshmen entering the fictional Columbus University, where tensions run sky-high. This trio consists of the militant Black Epps, the naive rookie Swanson, who experiences date rape and is radically changed afterwards, and the lonely, insecure outcast Rapaport, who joins a group of neo-Nazis. The themes are clear, but are sometimes overdone, and Singleton tried to address too many societal issues at once, making it feel a bit messy in places. The film starts innocently but ends on a bitter note, in which the message is clearly conveyed. Good acting from the youthful cast and a strong performance by Fishburne as the cynical professor.
