Nasty, forced bullshit movie. Tries with all his might to create a surreal dream atmosphere, but never becomes much more than a kind of uninteresting freak show. Full of hollow symbolism and annoying quotes and an extraordinary, but then also very, very annoying cast. No beauty, nothing fascinating, no emotion.

Wenders has to be the most erratic director of all time. Then again beautiful films like Der Amerikanischen Freund, then again films in which everything goes wrong that can go wrong like this one. Remains a strange elusive phenomenon.

This movie is very underrated. I thought it was a fine atmospheric work by Wim Wenders. Bono from U2 wrote the story and was also very busy with that project around that time I remember (as a die-hard U2 fan of course) But the film is just nicely constructed and is also more satirical. The cast and crew are also excellent. Mel Gibson is back to normal and a bit trudging as a grumpy sleuth. That Tom Tom was also a fun little guy and Mila Jovovich also did well. I also loved that one John Lennon figure who hasn't left his hotel room since Lennon's death.

The film is also very nicely constructed and varies from romance to satire and a bit of crime. We regularly receive music from U2 and the film also knows how to fill your evening. I did enjoy it.
