I can understand Koreeda somewhere.

His previous films were often quite heavy in subject matter. A film like this is quite good.

In itself the film is too long, but a film like this (we follow a whole mini-neighborhood of people) just needs that length a bit. It remains the case that Koreeda has to fill it properly, which does not happen entirely.

Yet throughout the film there are pleasant, light and some warm scenes which makes it an enjoyable film. Negative reactions are a bit exaggerated in my opinion, but those expecting a typical Koreeda will indeed be disappointed.

3.5*

It must be in my opinion the least good film of Koreeda that I have seen (8 already). An atypical film also of Koreeda if you have all the other melancholic behind you. Visually all fine with the beautiful setting from the period of the Samurai. It is a light film with a nice tune. It never gets really serious certainly not when you know how great the fighting talent of the main character is.

I thought the approach of revenge was very good and typical of Korea. He always tries to put a deeper message in his films. Why is honor killing so important in some family circles? Is it about the honor of the family? Or is it self-interest? What kind of education or message do you give to your children if this is the starting point?

For the rest not too much for me. It is because it is Koreeda that I accept it, for once anyway, especially since I just had the beautiful Air doll behind my teeth.
