Starkiss - Circusmeisjes in India plot
Locked in a separate compartment of the circus grounds, live about 50 girls who were sold by their parents to the Great Rayman Circus in India. Most come from the even poorer neighboring country Nepal. The gargoyle artist's brother smuggled them across the border. The girls, often still very young, talk about homesickness, performing in the circus and their expectations for the future. According to the owner of the circus, that future does not look very bright for them. If they can't get into the circus, they often end up in the red light district of Bombay. The other options are limited to rolling cigarettes, selling wood, or getting married. Until then, the girls perform in a fairytale world for an audience that doesn't see their underlying pain. "Keep smiling" is the trainer's order, as they are hoisted to the top of the circus in front of the "Starkiss" with a mouthguard on their teeth. The documentary follows and interviews three girls.
