LoveDeath plot
Sai and Sheila meet on 'Chrysalis Day'. A one-time event is everyone's life, and it determines the rest of your life. They both have to flee from a team of hitmen, a group of yakuza and the local police, who are all after them because of a lot of money they have stolen. The flight is more difficult than planned.

It's a shame this film is so unknown, because I don't see why it would have any trouble finding its target audience.
LoveDeath is Kitamura's take on Shark Skin Man. The film lives in the manga universe, throws in a bunch of deranged characters, and is delightfully all-style, no-substance. Crazy yakuza guys, Terajima as a defecting detective, and a yakuza boss who wants his money, girlfriend, and penis back.
The film is quite long, but given the large number of characters and numerous cameos, it certainly needs that time. If you didn't like Shark Skin Man, it's best to stay as far away as possible from this film; otherwise, it's highly recommended.
You might expect a little more from a film that is 10 years younger, but apart from that, it is pure entertainment.

A subpar project that reminded me of Love Exposure, and that's certainly not a compliment. An endless film with a bizarrely long running time, full of infantile, utterly unfunny characters who constantly appear on screen with another stupid prank. Director Ryuhei Kitamura undoubtedly has talent, but there's little of it left in this rather chaotic, grand project that drains an ounce of his energy. There's an occasional fun stunt and/or a quick camera movement, but the fights are remarkably bland, and the weak content seems endless. LoveDeath is the result of a screenplay that clearly should have been edited, but wasn't. Without a doubt, Kitamura's biggest blunder; thankfully, this incompetence was out of his system afterward.
