Not my cup of tea. The camerawork is excellent and the acting by Robinson, Garfield, Lupino, and Fitzgerald is quite good, but the story doesn't appeal to me at all. One of Michael Curtiz's weaker films.

Edward G. Robinson shines as the tyrant on the deck of his ship; for a type of psychological thriller, this film is unique, both in terms of location and approach, but if you hope the film will delve deep to fathom the captain's motivations, you will be somewhat disappointed. Nevertheless, there is plenty to enjoy in terms of atmosphere and acting.
