Gilbert Valence learns that his daughter and son-in-law have died in a car crash. Apparently the tragedy doesn't affect him much, but the old man will have to pay the toll of the shock that will inevitably strike. He is confronted with his own mortality, and learns to accept that the time is near for him too.
