Youth in Revolt plot

"Every "Revolution" Needs A Leader."

'Youth in Revolt' is the story of teenage Nick Twisp (Michael Cera), a sweet but goofy brat who meets his dream girl Sheeni (Portia Doubleday) on a quirky family vacation. The only problem is, Sheeni's dream boy is literally a dream: an imagined French mobster named Francois. This forces Nick to manifest his own alter ego version of Francois and rebel in the name of love.

I really didn't find anything fun or funny about this movie.

Nick Twisp was an annoying little guy. His parents of those exaggerated, not nice types and the story honestly didn't interest me either. Its a shame, but there is nothing to do about it.

Very surprising movie. I have a soft spot for these kind of comedies. Michael Cera may be the asshole as usual, but he does it again. And I didn't know Portia Doubleday yet, but it is also very nice. Reminded me of Emma Stone. And there are also some very witty supporting roles with Buscemi, Galifianakis, Willard and Justin Long.

3.5*

A film made in 2009, but with the occasional look of a 70s or 80s movie, both in terms of image and acting. Inserted with modern, varied techniques: drawing, animating, stop-motion, image over image, etc. And with nice songs. That combination of traditional film style with those funny gadgets in between makes it fun to watch.

The story has its good and bad sides. The kids are on holiday in France and experiencing adventures. The humor is often good, but sometimes bland (lol about escaped pigs).

All in all a nice alternative production.
