A real cult-horror, and you just have to like it. For starters, the terrible screaming (which is common in the movie) was very disturbing. The stop motion in the film really hurt my eyes. The scenes where the old New York was portrayed as raw, did me good. (How I miss those old times) Gore-wise, it wasn't much. The monster looks a bit clumsy, but the film also offers some emotion. Abigail, after he is surgically delivered, when a piece of dirt is put on the street in a plastic bag. or That his father yells ugly things at Abigail. As the film progressed, there was some animosity between Abigail and his twin brother Duane Bradley This becomes particularly apparent when Duane Bradley, takes his wicker basket to a bar and runs into a hotel mate. After some budweiser, Duane starts chatting quite openly (where he shares some heartbreaking words about his deformed brother.) As soon as the bar closes, and both return to the hotel, Duane falls asleep , but Abigail spends an evening with the woman. (At least, until his face came into her picture. Abigail, crawls back into his basket, but this time with panties, from that lady This causes him to become a bit aphrodisiac. What follows a sex scene between the monster, and a receptionist.which Duane saw something in. After Duane finds out, there is a mat party between the two twin brothers, and the animosity, which I mentioned earlier, returns for a moment. After both eventually hang on a signboard, the monster tries to save his twin brother. However he unintentionally strangles Duane to death.

Then you are challenged to watch a movie by Something Weird. That didn't make me very happy beforehand, but quite coincidentally I still had Basket Case lying around somewhere. Despite that film, avoided for a long time and now for that reason I decided to set it up.

Basket Case is a film that stands out mainly because of its lousy story. A boy is separated from his disfigured brother and he, or rather that thing, decides to take revenge. Even though the film is from 1982 and it is now quite outdated, the monster in the wicker basket looks lousy. Especially when it starts moving it's almost laughable to watch. It was like I was watching 'Buurman & Buurman' or a 'Chicken Run' at the time, although I have to say that I like the other titles better.

In terms of atmosphere it was reasonable with Basket Case, but it almost never became exciting. Kills are largely off screen, after which the blood flies around, so that it certainly cannot convince in the field of horror. And the humor was also more cringe-inducing than fun.

Crappy of course.

I can't ignore the fact that trash isn't exactly my genre, although these kinds of ideas can still easily fit in with me. Moreover, I saw scenes of this Belial before and I still thought it was funny. But unfortunately Belial is 1 of the few pluses.

Because it was all very simple. The crew is therefore not helped by the fact that the budget was ultimately only 35,000 dollars, which they also turned out to receive in parts. The result is a somewhat simple, screaming and often clumsy horror comedy that never quite works.

I do know about Henenlotter's style and know that he doesn't care about the rules, but a little more attention here and there is welcome. Everything is made very simple. Gloves like the hand of Belial, off-screen kills that are all about the same and a boring main character.

Only when Belial appears briefly does the film come alive, because that sort of thing appeals to me a bit more. I've seen some footage of the sequels, and those kills look a lot nicer. These kills are bloody but all the same, and I don't like that.

Those 91 minutes were ultimately quite tiring, but the last minutes do revive him a bit. Acting power is also very weak. Only Smith is still a little cute at times, and that was him again.

The film does come alive at times, but too little to bring every minute to a good end. Unfortunately, because I still had faith in this.
