"No one can outrun their destiny".

We date 2006, for Lehman Brothers and Subprime mortgages.... and that is reflected in a production of 40 million dollars with the South American jungle as a backdrop.

Eye for detail, beautiful camera work, sumptuous costumes and not a word of English but a lost language with lots of clicks and clacks that are only spoken on the Yucatan peninsula today. Raw interpretation of a lost culture on the eve of Spanish rule.

The bloodshed, cruelty and harshness of the culture give the whole an oppressive atmosphere and with a chase of almost an hour, this is an unparalleled viewing ride.

The drama of Gibson comes out very well in this epic, which in my opinion falls in the ranks of Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia. But then newer and in HD

After a second sitting of the film I would almost adjust it up.

What a winner.

Surprising and above all a beautiful adventure film where content and credibility is still a matter of serious discussion. But the high rating I give is mainly based on the authenticity that the trunk and the sets radiate in terms of intensity, but also the fact that they speak a certain language and also the many decorations and the colorfulness of the characters in terms of bones, earrings and tattoos. . I personally find it very beautiful and detailed.

The film starts with the necessary humor and the feeling what is this and in which direction it is going, supplemented with a bit of the habits and how they live. But once she is ambushed, a certain charge and tension comes over the film. The hardships are numerous that follow, and the prophecy of the sick girl is strange, beautiful but also a typical the wraith of the gods-esque Mel Gibson thingy. The village, the temple and the sacrificial ritual, I sit breathlessly watching it. The atmosphere, the ecstasy, the eye for detail and the almost simple horror that the harvest has failed and what do you do then? Right, capturing and sacrificing a neighboring tribe, simpler than simple. As well as the way in which the ex-sacrifices are released, or rather, have to flee for their lives.

This is where the film loses some of its credibility. The flight of several fighters with an arrow wound to his abdomen and how he stays ahead of the jaguar. Well.... all special. Still, it doesn't look out of place and doesn't bother enough for a bad review.

As far as I'm concerned, the end result is a beautifully designed image of a tribe in the Maya period, albeit here and there quite coarse and bloody. It is hard and raw at times, but also exciting and at times a bit ominous. Fairly balanced viewing pleasure with a great eye for detail. Nothing wrong with that.

Great movie with perhaps the best chase (almost an hour!) in movie history. Pretty bloody, but in the past people didn't make such a fuss about it. The fact that all the actors speak in an almost extinct Mayan language makes it all very authentic. There are some very special scenes in it, but that gives it some extra mystery. The ending on the beach is great (although not quite correct in terms of timeline). Definitely recommended if you like action movies.
