Alba is eleven years old and deadly shy. It doesn't help that she has to wear a plastic corset to correct her crooked back and gets a nosebleed at inconvenient moments. And then she is dropped right off the bat with her eccentric father Igor, whom she never knew and of whom she is deeply ashamed. Very slowly and carefully father and daughter get to know each other.

Great debut by this young director who still has her own experience of growing up fresh in her memory. The film radiates simplicity, behind which the coming of age story of the leading actress is hidden, the child actress was cast from a group of 600 girls. Plot and dialogue are minimal.

The result reminded me of the also Latin American Después de Lucía (2012) (5*), which is also about a teenager who having to grow up without a mother present and with a distant father, where bullying also plays an important role and there is hardly any dialogue. Alba has slightly less plot, with the screen time being mainly occupied by the young actress, who acts very convincingly.

Alba, extremely shy, seems to be a victim of years of bullying, has trouble making friends, and has to deal with social pressure from the other children while in a very difficult home situation. Her mother's illness forces her to live with her life-scarred father, who divorced her mother when she was a baby and has not seen her since, and of whom she is less than proud.

Beautiful film that is promising regarding the future of the two debutants, the young director and the young actress. More than 3.5*

My first from Ecuador. Also taken via the IFFR online platform. A film that indeed lets the images speak above the dialogues. Not difficult if you portray a timid, silent girl. A girl who is burdened by her mother's poor health and her own health problems. It makes her an outsider at school who cannot share the carelessness of life and the fantasy about boys, something girls of that age should do.

Things don't improve when she has to go live with her father. An odd figure to say the least. Excellent acting. Enjoyed!
