Marcus Ray is a sales representative for a jeans manufacturer in Hong Kong. He gets wind of a plot by the Russian mafia to hide microbombs in counterfeit brand jeans, then sell the sophisticated technologies to terrorist groups around the world. Marcus is the only one who can tell real jeans from fake and all hope is on him.

A reasonable film because they manage to show a terribly over the top spectacular moment every minute.
Acting is indeed very mediocre, although Van Damme himself occasionally still comes out funny. Story is very faintly twisted and the green flames were not the most ingenious idea.
But Hark can clearly do his thing a lot more here than is Double Team. He also seems to feel more at home in HK, judging by some very long, fun and impressive action scenes. Camera work is also more in the typical Hark direction, sporadically some nonsensical but fun humor present, and nothing more than a fun, entertaining and over the top genre film.
Certainly no competition for his better HK work, but it is certainly a very nice snack. 3.5*

So bad.
One of JC Van Damme's worst movies has got to be Knock-Off, including the terrible sidekick Rob Schneider. However, director Tsui portrays everything so over the top and kitschy that this is such a rare work that is actually so bad that it becomes good. An art in itself.

As a true Jean-Claude Van Damme fan who grew up with his action oeuvre, this is really the worst movie I've ever seen from him. Story, action and martial arts it's not what we're used to. Thinking out of the box can succeed, but certainly not here, at least in my opinion.
