As both their marriage and business go downhill, Jack and Alison Heywood experience every parent's ultimate nightmare. Their two children are involved in a traffic accident that leaves their seven-year-old daughter Frankie in a coma. From that moment on, the somewhat older Ben, traumatized and burdened with guilt, changes into a withdrawn and almost unreachable child. After three hopeless months, Frankie is just the coma case of the fifth floor, room four for the nursing staff. If her 'existence' lasts much longer, this could have dire consequences for Ben, who seems to have withdrawn into another world. Jack and Alison face a horrifying dilemma. Then, when all hope seems lost, they learn of an experimental clinic in America, run by the brilliant neurologist Elizabeth Chase.
