A giallo from the productive year 1972, although this is the only one directed by Francesco Mazzei. It may be considered a giallo, but you won't find any stylized murders here. It is more of a whodunit, although it is spiced up with a dash of nunsploitation (young half-naked nuns who practice self-mortification with whips) and a few semi-erotic scenes. Italy literally has a wealth of landscapes and monuments. As a setting for such films, it always hits the mark, and that is also the case here. Towards the end, however, things get a bit thin and it becomes more like a railway station romance when the commissioner decides to marry a main suspect in the murder case. A top score is therefore not on the agenda here, but it is entertaining.
