A Cock and Bull Story plot

"Because everyone loves an accurate period piece."

The story jumps back and forth in time as 21st century filmmakers want to tell an 18th century story on film, namely the work 'The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy' by Laurence Sterne. Tristram Shandy tells his life story on film as seen through his own eyes. The story about his childhood is interrupted by all kinds of problems with his family, which already reveals a lot more about Shandy than intended. Then the filming is stopped and an image is given of a chaotic evening with the actors and crew on the set.

Very funny film that swings from one silly situation to another. Another fine example of British humor. I had tears in my eyes from laughing several times. Well acted too, the interplay (read: the rivalry) between Coogan and Brydon is simply hilarious.

I just felt sorry for that little boy at first: Ouch!!

Mediocre film about a film crew trying to film the biography of Tristam Shandy. Part documentary, part costume drama and part film within a film. This makes the film somewhat unbalanced and even chaotic at the beginning. The dryly comic dialogues are funny here and there and the cast does a fine job.

Not all that exciting across the board, but Winterbottom, Coogan and Brydon are clearly on the eve of their later Trip films.

In addition to the interplay of the actors, the improvisation and semi-noncommittal nature are also very recognizable elements.
