Der Brennende Acker plot
An old farmer dies, leaving his two sons behind the large farm. The dutiful son Peter knows his responsibility and as a righteous leader he takes care of the staff and continues life on the farm. The other son, Johannes, had long had enough of rural life. Just back from the big city, he has ambitious plans. He manages to work his way into the household of the wealthy Count Rudenburg by becoming his secretary. The greedy Johannes makes a deal with Gerda, the Count's daughter, in order to secure any future riches. But when he finds out that Helga, Gerda's stepmother, is in for a huge inheritance, he has to adjust his tactics.
