Betsy Ross plot
"The photoplay that every man, woman and child should see"
Betsy Griscom (Alice Brady) lives in Philadelphia as a Quaker's daughter at the start of the American Civil War. When one day her sister Clarissa, dressed in Betsy's cloak, has a meeting with Clarence Vernon (Frank Mayo), a British officer, Betsy's lover, Joseph Ashburn (John Bowers), thinks Betsy is unfaithful to him. Joseph Ashburn challenges Vernon to a duel and shoots him. Ashburn, convinced that he killed Vernon, flees and loses his coat in the river. Betsy thinks Ashburn has drowned and agrees to marry John Ross (Victor Kennard).
