In 1918, Maurice Tourneur filmed 'The Blue Bird', an allegorical play by the Belgian writer Maurice Maeterlinck. The moral of the story: true happiness is found at home.
Before the two young protagonists make that wisdom theirs, they are taken by a fairy through a dream world of various palaces, where The Kingdom Of Future in particular, with children waiting for their birth, is a psychedelic spectacle. Really good copies have been lost, but the one from Storia Del Cinema is more than worth watching again.
