Not good. "I can make a Top Gun movie too," Milius must have thought, but he was mistaken. This lame rip-off of the aforementioned film comes up with mediocre special effects, predictable plot twists, and an ultra-patriotic ending. So, it is only half as entertaining.
I hadn't seen Dafoe with a mustache before; it suits him well... but that Brad Johnson is hideous. No idea why he got the lead role. The romantic trifle with Arquette was laughable (blonde single with a kid lusts after military uniforms...).

I do like American films from the 80s and early 90s. It all gets off to a bit of a slow start, but that isn't necessarily a negative thing. It isn't all equally believable, but I could look past that reasonably well. And it is a bigger production than the number of posts here suggests. *3.0
