Daughters of the Dust plot
In the early twentieth century, many descendants of the former slaves live on the islands off the coast of South Carolina and Georgia. This story takes place around 1902, a turbulent time, both for Europe, where the First World War threatens, and for America, where an internal struggle is set in motion for a better future and better civil rights for women and people of color. At that time, the Peazant family decides to leave the islands to start a new life on the mainland. During the difficulties they experience, their African roots and their rich Gullah heritage become clearly visible.
