Bjørnøya plot

Documentary about three Norwegian brothers who pursue their dreams on the remote Bear Island, an uninhabited island with a rugged and white landscape. Armed with a sled and surfboards, they cross the island and capture their thoughts and encounters with nature on film. They play sports, hunt, are full of adrenaline, but they also look for themselves. If they go surfing, someone has to stay behind, should a polar bear suddenly appear. Just before they leave the Norwegian mainland behind, one of the brothers finds out that he is going to be a father, something that makes the journey a lot harder for him.

Nice documentary about three Norwegian brothers who travel to the harsh Bear Island, near the Arctic Circle, where they want to stay for a few months to go surfing. We remember one of the brothers, Inge Wegge, from the short documentary Nordfor Sola from 2012, which had a similar approach. The sympathetic brothers, the beautiful landscape and the many hardships on the island provide an entertaining viewing experience this time too.

Super nice pictures of nature on Bear Island - so called because Barentz passed there and saw a polar bear, an animal he didn't know yet. Not that there are many walking around, but one does get lost sometimes.

With their contagious cheerfulness, the three brothers are on a much less serious expedition than Barentz, and naturally know a lot more about the environment and nature. Yet it remains an adventurous event, because it is a bit removed from civilization. Shocking to see how much pollution still ends up there. That, and the bucket-list mentality of the brothers also irritate the film.
