Lampedusa in Winter plot
A radio call from a boat in distress: the people on board have not eaten anything for three days and are exhausted. It is winter in Lampedusa. The tourists have disappeared and it is cold on the windswept island, 110 kilometers from the North African coast. There is unrest on the small island, which is the gateway to Europe for African migrants. Not only do they protest against their ill-treatment, the local fishing community is also stirring. The transport capacity of the new ferry – the only supply and disposal option for the 5,000 inhabitants of Lampedusa – is not sufficient to transport its fish catch to the mainland. Angry, the fishermen block the boat's arrival. The stocks are slowly running out: the shelves of the shops are eerily empty. The islanders are divided among themselves as the garbage piles up - just like the rickety, abandoned immigrant boats in the harbor...
