"Every second a heart-beat"
Corporal Joe arrives in New York. He still has two days of leave before his unit embarks for the front. He doesn't know anyone in that huge city until he meets Alice Mayberry. They spend the day and also the night together, busily taking over the milking round from an injured milkman. They fall in love and decide to get married before Joe leaves. Now the race against time begins to get all the administrative arrangements in order before Joe has to return to his unit.

Vincente Minnelli must have thought let Judy fall in love with Robert Walker on screen, I'll make it into a sympathetic, romantic film.
And so it happened. "The Clock" is a typical American film from the 1940s "love and marriage" in rush packaging included, charming, unpretentious but not trivial, if only because of the somewhat emotional and hopeful ending.

Sympathetic romantic story in which a soldier on leave falls in love with a woman he met in New York .
that they want to get married very soon is very credible with a mainly serious tone but also some humor in between so that it does not become too dramatic.
Both protagonists do a great job and the old man (whom they meet on the way) in a great supporting role.
