Quand les Étoiles Rencontrent la Mer plot
Kapila is born on the day of a solar eclipse, a 'visible disharmony of heaven'. According to tradition in Madagascar, children born under such conditions possess great and dangerous powers. As a test, Kapila has to spend a night among the cattle. He survives this, but not by himself. A childless young woman rescues Kapila, changing his fate forever. Kapila remains paralyzed in one leg (the name 'Kapila' means something like 'limp') and is seen as a kind of outcast. The young woman adopts him and takes him to the big city, where he is confronted with the harsh and violent sides of poverty. When his only friend is beaten to death, he grows up without friends. Once mature, Kapila realizes that he has secret powers that he cannot control. After his adoptive mother dies, he embarks on a journey that will take him to his father and his native village.
