I think this is quite a fun, entertaining film to watch. Not a high flyer, as far as I'm concerned. It is an adventurous film. I think I could also call it adolescent, which I don't mean negatively. It fits the story and the main characters. I think the acting is good. It's not a deep film, but sometimes I like to watch something lighthearted. 3*

Good film about two boys who meet each other at school and take a trip in a stolen car. Simply a smooth road movie and coming-of-age film with fun and beautiful characters. The two boys are initially opposites, but the friendship that develops is well developed. The young cast does well and the film contains plenty of beautiful locations.

This was another super-fun video from Fatih Akin. Two 14-year-old outcasts have adventures in an old Lada. Good children's film in which the main character Tschick looks a bit like a fairytale character. Not only his tall figure and his black quiff, but also his willingness to always go for it, and ultimately his disappearance. Maik feels rejected at school because he is the only one not invited to the birthday party of the class babe. He doesn't think much of Tschick at first, but they both become close friends during their summer road trip.

Akin knows how to put a good dose of romance in his films. He already did that heart-warmingly well in Im Juli. (2000) (4*) and does it again in the same way. He brings awkwardness and innocence to the longing for love in a hard existence and that is something that I really appreciate in his films. And then of course the formidable and hip soundtrack... Except for Clayderman who is the odd one out in the set list, all obscure but very good songs. Tschick is recommended, but it lacks the visual flair that we are used to from Akin, and the road trip itself feels a bit aimless, so just under 4* for me.
