Entertaining remake of the 1953 original. House of Wax is a film with the well-known story: teenagers get stranded in a deserted place and seek help. It is a concept that can certainly be used for some fun. For a horror movie, House of Wax succeeds quite well. As a viewer you will have the feeling of déjà vu quite often, while watching this film you will probably have that too. The trick has been done a hundred times, but that makes little difference for a "zero brain" film like this one.

The acting is decent by the cast. Naturally, the characters are loud and seem to have the wit and patience of a twelve-year-old. Elisha Cuthbert stands out the most. She does it all just a little better than her opponents. She also has a beautiful face to look at. In any case, Paris Hilton is an absolute wreck and really can't act. luckily she plays a dumb blonde (very truthful), and we all know what happens to blondes in horror movies.

House of Wax has a nice atmosphere. The concept of wax figures in movies is quite unique and this makes this movie stand out from other generic horror movies. The film looks slick: excellent camera work and detailed locations. The film even manages to provide a few small surprises. I have to say that the movie is too long. I still think 90 minutes is more than enough for an average horror movie. The beginning of the film in particular is quite boring and does not invite you to continue watching. All in all, I had a great time.

3*

Certainly not as bad as expected, because the numbers on IMDb and MovieMeter didn't promise much good. Still, it was not that bad and House of Wax can be seen as a reasonable film for which a decent budget was available.

Stranded teenagers falling prey to the local insane, where haven't we seen that before? Right, often. And then this also turns out to be a remake of an original that I haven't seen but has caught my interest. And of course people are aso, noisy, noisy and very indecent to just walk in everywhere. You almost want them to be slaughtered except for the beautiful and well-acting leading lady Elisha Cuthbert.

The first phase is actually not very special and can be called average. You just stand somewhere, start a fire, get drunk and you soon notice some strange things, of course greeted with inappropriate behavior. Once in Ambrose, the film gets underway with the discovery of the queer wax museum, and again, a very bad quality to give you access just like that. Asking for trouble, but okay. Once sort of trapped it's a matter of eliminating the group one by one.

Nice is the setup of Ambrose and the history of the perpetrator. The cast does not say much with the superficial group of friends, Paris Hilton of course as a shocking low point, but fortunately Chad Michael Murray is quite reasonable as 'thick wood is sawn planks' Nick and of course Cuthbert as the center, which is not only beautiful to see , but also does her part well. The mood music and the bit of Gore and slasher make House of Wax quite nice to watch, especially in the second phase, even though the film does not go outside the beaten track of the genre.

As far as I'm concerned, House of Wax is quite nice for once and can also have a pass from me, even if the end with the melting house makes no sense because where has the solid structure gone?

The introduction is unfortunately longer than necessary, because it makes the characters neither more interesting nor more sympathetic, but once the horrors start there are more than enough unsavory scenes in it, and the two actors who make it to the finish line fine. It no longer has the impact House of wax had on me the first time, but it's still an above-average horror film, and what eventually happens to the title object is beautifully filmed.
