This hep was/is on Facebook.

Richet; the man behind the Mesrine duo and in America the remake of Assault on Precinct 13 and Blood Father. The earlier titles are often all but forgotten, but the internet is big. And if you're lucky... How does this title that is almost indecipherable turn out?

I have to say that this is a fine work that, like La Haine, focuses on three youngsters from the Parisian Banlieu. The opening sequence with that (weapon-bearing) swinging woman and the riots in the background is already a no-brainer and the hip-hop soundtrack works well. The introduction with the three youngsters in question starts off quite ordinary, but it does become more and more interesting. Similarities with La Haine can be found quite quickly: The Banlieu, Three boys who wander around all day and cause trouble (and also manage to wrap the police around their fingers), and then also the premise that is borrowed from the title just mentioned.

The effect is different, however. Here the film turns into a real action spectacle (where everyone misses, by the way) and the actual moment that leads to the well-known revolution; which is convincingly and well portrayed here. Yes, France has been known for that for centuries.

It helps that the film is not black and white. It is a successful setup. I could not find much bad in it.

3.5*
