"A comedy about life, hope, and getting even."
Taft is a California desert town, literally and figuratively in the shadow of Bakersfield. An inter-school baseball game is held once a year, with Taft always drawing the short straw. Except for that one time in 1972. But then Jack Dundee let the ball slip out of his hands after a decisive pass from excellent quarterback Reno Hightower. The unique opportunity for Taft to win was then lost. Jack feels guilty for the rest of his days and continues to whine about his failure. Now, thirteen years later, someone has come up with the idea to do that game from 1972 again. Jack is excited and starts training. Reno, the former sports star, must assemble a squad.

A decent film about a man trying to replay a lost football game from the past. The buildup is rather long, and it takes a while before the film becomes entertaining. The pace could also have been a bit faster. The community in which the film is set is well-depicted, and Robin Williams and Kurt Russell are also well-cast together. A narrow 3.0 stars.
