Milarepa plot
Bhutan in the eleventh century. The boy Thopaga is destined to become a prominent figure in the village like his father. That future is shattered when his father suddenly dies. The relatives left behind must see with sadness that money, goods and land come into the hands of an uncle and aunt. Thopaga's mother and sister are mocked and treated as servants. At sixteen, his mother sends him away to learn black magic. He has to take revenge on behalf of his mother for the loss of status and property.

My second film from Bhutan is much less catchy than its predecessor (Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom (2000).
The film is set in the foothills of the Himalayas. That environment naturally produces beautiful images, but the story with a hefty dash of magic about a legendary Tibetan yogi did not really appeal to me. My lack of knowledge about that culture probably plays tricks on me.
